ACADEMICS
One of the Institute's primary goals is the ongoing educational needs for each adolescent in treatment. We have developed an educational component which improves the attitude, participation level, study habits and academic achievement while your adolescent is in our program.
We know how difficult it is for a young person to return to school if they have not had the opportunity to keep academic pace with their peers. If your adolescent is admitted to the Institute for treatment, he or she will have scheduled time for academics. Parents of those students registered in a Colorado public school are to notify the home school of the adolescent's admission and request Homebound services. Paperwork necessary for this request will be available at the time your adolescent is admitted for treatment. Our focus is on academic achievement and improving the academic cadence of your adolescent is the desired effect. We do not interrupt academic movement while in treatment, but facilitate a high level of academic improvement during the course of care.
Staff, student and parent(s) may participate in scheduled "re-entry school conferences" near the completion of treatment. Follow-up of our students supports a positive and sustained level of academic success when returning to their respective home school. Our academic component is efficient, effective, and integrated in our total treatment format.
Special accommodations are made for those young students not attending a Colorado public school, i.e.: Private Schools, Out-of-state schools, GED Preparation, etc.
ACTIVITY / RECREATIONAL
The lifestyle of some adolescents excludes attention to the personal habits which assist one in keeping the body fit. We recognize that part of the treatment and habilitation process must include physical exercise. The Institute views the adolescent as a whole person in which physical activities interrelate with the daily clinical and therapeutic services and contribute to the well being of the individual. Our objective is to integrate leisure skills into adolescent life so that negative behaviors are replaced with healthy outlets involving other family members, healthy peers, and significant others. The activity therapy component of our program is facilitated by skills of clinicians, consultants and Resident Supervisor/Mentor staff with a variety of interests and talents.
The program schedule includes supervised expressive art therapy, nutritional services, health seminars and recreational activities. All activities will be under the direct guidance of supervisory staff and will include: individual and team sports, trail hikes, field trips, stretching and aerobics, volleyball, tennis, swimming, off campus cultural outings and attendance at special events.
